Koasati Pines Golf Course Hosts US Open Qualifier

69 Golfers Compete for Four Spots in This Local Qualifier Tournament

Kinder, LA––Top golfers from Louisiana and surrounding region, both amateurs and club pros, gathered to compete in the US Open Qualifier tournament held at Koasati Pines at Coushatta championship golf course on Thursday, May 14, 2015. A total of 69 players competed for the top four spots in this local qualifier in order to advance to the sectional qualifier. Local qualifying, conducted over 18 holes at 111 sites in 43 states, takes place May 4-21, 2015. Koasati Pines at Coushatta is the only course in Louisiana to host a US Open Qualifier this year.

The four golfers to advance to the US Open sectional qualifier are Brian Rowell of Broussard, Louisiana, Clayton Rotz of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Myles Lewis of New Orleans, Louisiana, and Chris Ward of McKinney, Texas. Today’s golfing was also noteworthy for Austin Gutgsell of Baton Rouge––during his play in today’s qualifier, Gutgsell sank a rare Hole in One on Hole #12.

Golf’s ‘crème de la crème’ from nationwide qualifier tournaments will compete in the prestigious US Open to be held June 18-21 at Chambers Bay in University Place, Washington––the first U.S. Open in the Pacific Northwest.
