Festivities Held in The Pavilion at Coushatta Casino Resort

June 8, 2015

Kinder, LA—The Coushatta Tribe’s 20th annual powwow, one of the largest in the South, will bring together hundreds of representatives from tribes across the US and Canada, converging in a magnificent pageant of sight and sound. USA Today® listed this powwow as one of the Top Ten Best (August 2014). Here is the link to the article: http://www.usatoday.com/story/travel/destinations/10greatplaces/2014/08/14/native-american-indian-pow-wow/14057291/

The public is invited to attend this family-friendly alcohol-and-drug-free event. The Coushatta Powwow is truly a one-of-a-kind experience, not to be missed. Admission for spectators is $5 per day; children 6 years and younger are admitted free of charge. Purchase tickets at the Pavilion gate on day of show.

Traditionally, the term “powwow” is defined as “a gathering of nations.” The powwow will begin with Gourd Dancing on Friday, June 12, at 5pm followed by Grand Entry at 7pm, the rhythmic march involving all the dancers that opens the dance competitions. Breath-taking performances in colorful tribal regalia are the hallmark of all competitions throughout the two-day event.
