May 25, 2017
Kinder, LA—The Coushatta Tribe of Louisiana’s 16th Annual Chairman’s Cup charity golf tournament held Thursday, May 18, was another great success, raising $164,000––the single greatest amount to date.
“With the help of our generous sponsors we were able to raise the greatest amount yet, $164,000, for the Chairman’s Cup Foundation. This tournament has grown in the past few years and has become very popular among our participants,” commented Coushatta Tribal Chairman Lovelin Poncho. “I want to thank all of Coushatta Casino Resort and Coushatta tribal staff whose tireless efforts make this important fundraiser run smoothly year after year. Their hard work and continued support are instrumental to our success,” he concluded.
The Chairman’s Cup golf tournament is an annual charity fundraiser hosted by the Coushatta Tribe of Louisiana and held at Koasati Pines at Coushatta, the resort’s award-winning championship golf course. This year’s 2-day tournament was filled to capacity with 156 competitors enjoying a 4-man scramble format on fast, smooth greens and well-manicured fairways. The day’s superb golfing and dining concluded with a steak dinner at the awards ceremony. The tournament ended with two teams tied for first place: Capital One Bank and Aristocrat.
On Wednesday night, May 17, tournament participants were entertained at a reception featuring a buy-in Blackjack tournament. Proceeds from this year’s golf and Blackjack tournaments totaled an unprecedented $164,000––the single greatest amount of money raised to date. All proceeds benefit the Chairman’s Cup Foundation.
The presenting sponsor for the Chairman’s Cup was Coca-Cola; platinum sponsors were Imagine This and Zotto Mattress. Golden sponsor for the event was Koasati Construction Management. Silver sponsors were Capital One Bank, First Class Tours, Mello Joy, The Carson Group, and Wells Fargo.
Tournament golfers enjoyed excellent food and drink throughout the day––four food stations on the course served a variety of national and international cuisines. The casino’s restaurants held a friendly competition between themselves with golfers voting for their favorites. Capturing first place with their American-style menu was the team from Café Grande, Terrace Café, and Gumbeaux’s Sports Bar. Second place went to the team from Seven Clans Buffet and Later Gator Café Employee Dining, serving their European-style menu. The team from Big Sky Steakhouse and Coushatta Bakery took third place with their Asian-themed menu.
The Chairman’s Cup Foundation is an independent, 501c3 organization. The golf tournament is an annual fundraiser hosted by the Coushatta Tribe of Louisiana and held at Koasati Pines at Coushatta. Local and area businesses participate as sponsors; 100% of funds collected for the Foundation are earmarked for donations to local and regional charities. Written requests for funding by Louisiana-based charitable and non-profit groups, organizations, or individuals in need are submitted to the Foundation Board for review.
