KINDER, LA––Tejano music legends La Mafia and Michael Salgado will take the stage at Coushatta Casino Resort’s Pavilion on Saturday, September 15. Doors open at 5:30pm, performance begins at 7pm. General admission tickets are on sale now at Ticketmaster.com and at Coushatta Box Office, where Advantage Club members receive a $10 discount.
In 1991 with the album “Estas Tocando Fuego,” La Mafia became the first Tejano artist to sell a million copies, catapulting them to international status and making their hip, new hybrid of Tejano, pop and Mexican-infused-style Cumbia a staple on radio, on both sides of the border as well as all of Latin America. “I would say we’re probably the Rolling Stones of our music, because we’ve been around a long time,” says Oscar de la Rosa, lead singer. Hailing from Houston, Texas, they are largely responsible for the resurgence of the “norteño sound.” La Mafia has won two Grammys, two Latin Grammys, and has sold over 10 million albums.
Michael Salgado won a Latin Grammy for the Best Tejano Album in 2016, and Best Norteño Album in 2007 for “En Vivo.” He has been recognized with four Tejano Music Awards, among them “Best Song Of The Year” for “Ya No Voy a Aguantar,” and Billboard Latin Music Award “Best Album Regional Mexican.” He hits include “Cruz de Madera” and “Palomita Blanca.”
