'Legends in Concert' Celebrates Silver Anniversary

Longest-Running Independently Owned Production Show on the Strip

May 5, 2008

Las Vegas – On May 5, 1983, tribute artists Buddy Holly, Janis Joplin, Marilyn Monroe, Bobby Darin and Elvis performed on the stage at the Imperial Palace Hotel & Casino, and “Legends in Concert” was born.

More than 15,000 performances later, impersonators Jay Leno, Dolly Parton, Madonna, the Temptations and Elvis will take to the stage on Monday, May 5, as "Legends" reaches a significant milestone achieved by few entertainment shows anywhere: 25 years of providing family-oriented, value-priced live musical entertainment, two shows per night, six nights per week.

"Legends," produced by On Stage Entertainment, remains the longest-running independently owned production show on the Las Vegas Strip.

"It has been our privilege and pleasure for the past 25 years to showcase such enormously talented tribute artists and to give the public a venue in which they could enjoy their favorite musical superstars," said Brian Brigner, chief operating officer for
On Stage. "It's been a long road to get to this moment, but it's been a great ride."

In the 25 years since the show debuted, 74 celebrities have been impersonated on the Imperial Theatre stage. The most impersonated act has been the man once nicknamed “Elvis the Pelvis,” with 17 different performers paying tribute to the legendary “King of Rock 'n' Roll.”

To date, 5,416,521 showgoers have enjoyed the celebrity tribute spectacular in Las Vegas. Because of “Legends” ever-changing lineup, many come back to see multiple performances, including one devoted fan from Detroit who has seen the live musical production 2,066 times since July 1983, when she was 12 years old.

During the past 25 years, "Legends in Concert" has grown from one production in Las Vegas to year-round presentations in Branson, Mo.; Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and Atlantic City, N.J. The show has traveled to 15 countries on five continents, and operates numerous fixed-based, touring, limited-term and private engagements of "Legends in Concert" throughout the world.
