June 19, 2009

Kinder, LA—At 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 23, the Coushatta Tribe of Louisiana’s commitment to help keep healthcare costs down takes a bold step toward improving a vital benefit for its tribal members and casino associates: groundbreaking on a permanent Coushatta Family Medical Center & Pharmacy. The new building will replace the current temporary structure and will be staffed with two full-time physicians, a pharmacist, and a registered nurse, plus medical support and administrative staff. In addition to Dr. Tammy Mitchell, the current on-staff physician, Dr. Hernando Guzman, a family practice physician, will join the team in July.

The new facility will be located on the north side of the casino campus, near the Associate Resource Center. The 6,672 square foot permanent facility will provide six patient examination rooms, a full service laboratory and full service pharmacy. Additionally, the new building will feature separate rooms for minor surgical procedures and for immunizations.

The Coushatta Family Medical Center & Pharmacy offers tribal members and casino associates lower co-pays on office visits and prescription costs, with close, convenient, quality medical care. Take Care Health Systems will operate and manage the facility. Take Care Health Systems, a wholly owned subsidiary of Walgreens and part of Walgreens Health and Wellness division, is the largest and most comprehensive manager of worksite health and wellness centers and convenient care clinics in the United States.
